Every guide in Savannah tells you about The Pirates' House. Most of them tell you the same story, sourced from the same pamphlet, repeated without question for thirty years.
Here's what the documents actually say — and what they don't.
The building dates to 1753 and served as an inn for sailors arriving at the port of Savannah. The rum cellar is real. The tunnel that allegedly connected it to the river for press-gang kidnappings? That story has a more interesting and more complicated history than most guides acknowledge.
The supernatural claims attached to the building are extensive. What Patrick has found in his research is that several of the most repeated incidents have verifiable origins — and several others were invented or significantly embellished within the last forty years of Savannah's tourism boom.
The honest version is more interesting than the manufactured one.
